Then came number two another Mazda 808 but it was a wagon..... known as the shaggin wagon!!. Well it was a great car and the two of us went everywhere, you name any beach from Nelson Bay to Wollongong the wagon and me went there. From camping nights at the Barrington Tops national park (where me and Mick almost drove it of a cliff) to sitting on the bonnet having a cold beer in the coles carpark outside the old Toronto Bowling Club. Then came a job change from trolleyologist to press operator at A.I.R. With the jump up in pay came the jump up in cars and it was time to say goodbye to me old mate and I sold it to brother Mark, so along came number three.
My very first Commodore, the Commodore VB!!. A great car with the old red motor, one that you could work on. Over the years I changed oil filters, water pump, radiator, brake pads, air filters all the easy stuff but things that you just can't do with these new cars now. The commodore and me went for trips to Queensland, New South Wales outback and down Victoria way. But after awhile the car started to make noises and it was time for car No 4.
And I went back to the Mazda's and owned a Mazda 626 hatchback, The best trip I went on with this car was up to Townsville with me old mate Jacky Rissole. We drove all the way in two days (with two days back), on the way up we stopped that night in a town called Gin Gin, we popped into the town pub grabbed a six pack and sat on the bonnet and drank the coldies then pass out in the car (not the greatest sleep). And on the way back we had a six park in the graveyard at tenterfield at about two in the morning and passed out in the car (again not the greatest sleep, but a sleep non the less). The Mazda was a great car and I never had any problem with the old girl, but then I was retrenched at BHP REFRACTORIES and I made up my mind that I was going to go walkabout around Australia. So I wanted a car that I could sleep inside to save some money on the trip and that's when my favorite car came along.
No5 and back to the Commodores with a Commodore VN wagon. This car was full of power and the trip around Australia was just unbelievable. From being drunk and sleeping in the back at Daley waters Hotel, to being drunk and sleeping in the back at Port Douglas. To waking up in the back of the car in Kyuna drunk as a skunk, to getting up with a hangover in the car in Blackall..... wondering what the hell am I doing in flaming Blackall.... long story. It drove me to my new job in Caiguna where I was to meet me misses and drove us both across the Nullabore heaps of times. This car took us and pulled the caravan (dogbox) across the Nullabore three times and in all that time it only had a transmation change... that's it. What a car and we would still be driving it now if it wasn't for a bloke who drove straight across in front of me and hit me side-on and rode off the old girl!!. Gave me two broken ribs for my troubles too, mogul.
So along came No6 Commodore VS sedan was too be our next car .This car is a pressure to drive and has more power then you need but is still a great car. It came into our lives when we only had Jack and Sarah but with the new car came our other two kiddies Harrison and Oscar (talk about reading the small print).
Next was our decision to have two cars as both me and the misses were both working, and it was getting hard to use just one car so got an old Ford Van. The first and hopefully the last time we will have a Ford, and unluckily for us it only lasted one year before the engine gave up.
After a year without our two cars was just to hard so we went out looking for a van to pop all the kiddies in, and we brought a ripper Toyota Tarago. This van is a bloody beauty and hopefully (fingers crossed) it will last for a fair while.
A year down the track (2013) the Vs died with the engine giving up the ghost, so I went out to buy something different but after looking at all the different cars that are out their... I brought back another bloody commodore! I just love that car model and so we now own a Vz Commodore (2004 model) for only $5.700 which isn't bad for a car, and time will tell if it was a good decision or not.
