Bugatti Veyron

This badge is one of the worlds most reknown names in motorsport, within it's sheds it owns one of the most power-fullest machines the world has ever layed it's eyes on. Not only is it the most expensive piece of metal with wheels on it, but it is also the most fastest street-legal production car in the world! And that car would be the....

BUGATTI VEYRON EB GRAND SPORT 16.4

This piece of stainless steel n' aluminum carbon-fiber comes from sleepy old France, and isn't it just a bloody ripper to have a captain cook at. But when it comes with a price tag of just under 2.8 million aussie dollars!, I suppose you'd want something good looking for your moolah.

So what do you get for just a bit over 2.7 million.... well....

You get a ripper 8.0-litre, quad-turbocharged W16 cylinder engine, which in tec talk means it has 16 friggin' cylinders! That's like having two bloody V8's bunged together! And don't forget it also has 4 turbochargers! That's right 4 bloody turbos! can you imagine how much trouble you could have with this little baby, with all these dodars on-board it'll brake down all the friggin' time. Also as the engines are narrow staggered it allows two overhead camshafts to drive two banks of cylinders, which means you only need four camshafts to work it... thank God for that!

For now anyway this is the fastest street production car in the world, and they had the Guinness Book of Records pop over to Germany to prove it. So how fast does this thing go.... well it has a top speed of 431km/h! Strewth that's pretty quick hay, but the car has a speed restricter which keeps it at 415km/h to protect the tyres from disintegrating! Crikey and between you and me you don't want to go through the tyres too soon, as their special Michelin PAX tyres designed specifically to accommodate the Veyron's top speed, and cost US$25,000 per set. But that's not the only cost to the tyres as they have to be specially mounted onto
the rims which can only be done in France, which is done at the tidy sum of US$70,000 strewth! So really a set of tyres comes to around US$95,000.... So there's no chance of slapping on any Bob Janes here.... Doesn't it make your eyes water.

As you can see the inside is pretty nifty and looks real spacey, a bit more up-dated then the local commodore. But i'm having a hard time trying to find the cup holder? Well you have to have a place to pop the large cup of coke from McDonalds hay!
But let's get to the heart of this tin can.. and as you can see most of the friggin' car is full of it's motor, fairdinkum there's no baby chair in the backseat here... which isn't a bad thing trust me!

.

And this is where they hide all those horses... it's the heart of what makes this thing run so fast, it's the EB GRAND SPORT 16.4 has 1,200 PS
(880 kW; 1,200 bhp) and torque of 1,500 N·m (1,100 lbf·ft, the transmission is a dual-clutch direct-shift gearbox computer-controlled automatic with seven friggin' gear ratios. It's a permanent all-wheel drive car and if your wondering (like me), it costs just over US$120,000 for a replacement transmission! I get the feeling you won't be able to get your hands on a reconditioned one! so just don't let the misses drive it to much, ha,ha. And while were yacking about the engine she takes a massive ten radiators! Trust me I'm fairdinkum it's got 3 heat exchangers for the intercoolers, 3 engine radiators, 1 for the air conditioning, 1 for the transmission, 1 diff oil radiator and finally 1 oil radiator. So popping into your local Midas store for a oil n' filter change could set you back quiet a bit mate, when you think a standed oil change on a Ferrari costs around $2000.

But lets get to the stuff that most people like to have a gander at, and that would be it's speed from a standing start. Well this little ripper hit's 0-100 in.... wait for it.... 2.46seconds! crikey that's fast, it'll take more then 2 seconds to start the old commodore. Now I'm using fairdinkum info from the internet here so I'm not joking! If you want to compare this thing to something a bit more down to earth.... let's say the legendary DATSON 180B! The old datso would go from 0-100 in 13.2 seconds (of cause it wouldn't go anymore faster then 100 so that's where the stats ended ha,ha). Now getting back to our car... 0-240km/h in 9.8 seconds, 0-300 in 14.6 seconds and finally 0-400 in a lazy 55 seconds... This is one mean sheilah.

And lastly what about the brakes... well it uses cross drilled, radially vented carbon fibre silicon carbide discs made by SGL Carbon. Also there's a air-wing at the back of the car, which pops out when you either need the car to slow around corners or when you want to stop suddenly. Now as for how good they work well have a listen to this, the Bugatti company claims it will brake from 400 km/h (250 mph) to a standstill in less than 10 seconds! But it would take almost half a kilometer to cover that distance ha,ha I don't know whats funner... that it takes 10 seconds to cover 500 meters or that your using your brakes when your doing it! STREWTH!

So this car is just unbelievable but if you want to see how it hit that top speed, which it did quiet easy may I add. Then have a gander at the video of Top-Gear where James May attempts to break the speed record, fairdinkum it's worth having a gander.

But if you can't afford the lazy 2 million plus to impress your mates, then you could always buy one of the limit editions (only 30 made) Bugatti Veyron sport watch. It's in-cased in 18 carat white gold and comes in at a handy $259,000! That's more then the cost of my friggin' house! So if you haven't got the money for the fancy car, you can always buy the rich watch to make you look like that rich prat image that your looking for!
FAIRDINKUM!
